Courtney Schilling was a Forest Edge Elementary School special education teacher, U.Va. graduate, Phi Mu Sorority president, Herndon High School track captain, and beloved daughter, sister, and friend who lost a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Courtney began her career at Forest Edge Elementary School in 2008 as a member of the special education team. She worked tirelessly with her students to help them succeed. After being diagnosed in July 2009 with small cell carcinoma of the ovary, she fought a brave, tenacious battle which she lost, just four months later, in October 2009.
In June of 2010, to honor Courtney's memory and love of running, the Forest Edge Elementary School PTA, Courtney's FCPS co-workers, along with Courtney's family and friends started a 5K Run/Walk.
